SOCIALLY GOOD

SociallyGood is a community event presented by Leadership Broward Foundation and it’s open to everyone!  Each month SociallyGood will feature a nonprofit partner who will receive 100% of the proceeds from all SociallyGood guest fees collected from that evening.
Leadership Broward Foundation cares about our community and we are continually seeking ways to be a stronger agent for change. Our mission is to develop and inspire individuals to serve our community. Please join us, as we network with our supporters and friends and introduce them to some of the amazing work that is being performed by local non profits in our community today.

Our nonprofit partner this month is:

Junior Achievement of South Florida is training the next generation of business leaders, employees and consumers by educating students about financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness. Our mission is to inspire and prepare youth to succeed in a global economy.

Junior Achievement of South Florida:
  • provides real-world training in financial literacy including budgeting, spending, investing and the use of credit;
  • offers cutting-edge skill-building opportunities that enable young people to explore meaningful, productive careers;
  • teaches students how to start businesses;
  • introduces entrepreneurial values that strengthen workplaces.
Junior Achievement’s programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action and learn the value of contributing to their communities.
In 1959, Junior Achievement of South Florida was created by members of the Fort Lauderdale Rotary Club. In its first year, the organization served 373 high school students. Over the next 49 years, JA increased its reach to include more than 13,000 students a year. Then in 2009, JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion, located on the north campus of Broward College, opened its doors and the organization’s impact grew significantly to 50,000 students a year.

At 60,000 square feet, JA World is the single largest JA educational facility of 36 in the world. The project was spearheaded by the late Marti and Wayne Huizenga, who made a lead gift to the capital campaign and helped bring other community leaders to support the project. The land was generously donated by Broward College, and through a partnership with Broward County Public Schools, it was agreed that every 5th and 8th grade student would participate in the JA BizTown and JA Finance Park programs, including classroom instruction and a simulation at JA World.
Today JA programs span grades K-12 across Broward and south Palm Beach counties, with age appropriate curriculum that heightens the academic experience. Over the past 60 years, Junior Achievement of South Florida has servd over 1,000,000 students.
